There’s more to Russian music than Tchaikovsky

Most people when they’re asked about Russian music they’ll know about Tchaikovsky, and not much else. Sure, he’s probably the most famous Russian composer, but the country has much more to offer musically. All across the country, there are styles of music related to the scores of ethnic groups who live in Russia. A modern music scene has emerged in the big cities and beyond from street musicians to avant-garde ensembles. There’s even a musical revival bringing back elegance and manners from two centuries ago.
