The aftermath of the conflict in South Ossetia
A City of Desolate Mothers was made right after Georgia's attacks on Tskhinval, while the dust left behind by the bombardment was still hanging over the city and the imprints of blood had yet to be washed away. South Ossetian women had so much taken away from them that summer that they could no longer cry. Tskhinval became a city burning with anguish – a city of desolate mothers.
