RTD takes silver at US Int’l Film & Video Festival with film featuring children in war-torn Syria

RT Documentary's, 'Where Childhood Died', clinches a Silver Screen award at the US International Film & Video Festival. The heart-wrenching documentary details the trauma faced by Syrian children growing up as a devastating war rages around them. The film was recognised in the Documentary: Social Issues category.

Terrorist groups recruit children to fight in the Syrian war
Imad was 13 when he was taken by Jaysh al-Islam to fight against Syrian government forces. Children his age were sent to the front line to defend the militants’ positions. “We were trained to be cruel,” Imad says.

Where Childhood Died meets children, who were held in militant-occupied areas and considers the heavy emotional toll the conflict has taken. Boys and girls who have never known peace describe how they were forced to dig tunnels for terrorists, and the nightmares and fears that haunt them. The film includes the accounts of young people, their parents and specialists trying to help the children come to terms with their traumatic past.

The US International Film & Video Festival is an annual awards competition, held in Los Angeles since 1967.
