It’s Orthodox Christmas on the Rossiya train, and some of the conductors give the passengers a holiday surprise by carolling, receiving a hoard of treats in return. The high spirits don’t last long. After Lyudmila’s suitor departs and Natalia receives a troubling call from home, the crew begins to fall into a funk as they approach their final destination. To make matters worse, a scheduling snafu delays the train for an hour and a half, putting everyone’s salary bonus in jeopardy.
