Nepalese villagers preyed upon by a thriving organ black market
Organ traffickers are luring poor Nepalese into giving up their kidneys. The sinister trade is especially rife in villages in Kavre province, which has earned the nickname ‘Kidney valley’.
In the tiny village of Hokse, Nepal, organ traffickers are active. Locals say over 300 people have already sold their kidneys.
In almost every household at least one person has had a kidney removed. Greedy dealers exploit villagers’ extreme poverty and naivety talking them into the irreversible surgery, promising easy money for the organs which they say will grow back.
