The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic’s choice to defend its territory and multiculturalism

The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, also known as Transnistria, lies between Moldova and Ukraine. In 1990, it parted ways with newly independent Moldova to keep its multiculturalism. Veterans look back on the war that followed while businessmen explain some surprising product placement tricks boosting sales of a local spirit on the international market. Students have to decide between going abroad for higher salaries or staying home for a better quality of life, and Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky explains why his countrymen want to retain their independence and eventually achieve international recognition.

The 1992 war between Transnistria and Moldova came to an end with the intervention of the Russian Army. Since then, Russian peacekeeping troops have been policing the Republic of Prendestrovia's border checkpoints.
