Abortion: America’s Divide

US battle over abortion ban

Abortion: America’s Divide is a film by RT Documentary, highlighting the anti-abortion debate in the United States. The tensions heightened when on 19 May 2021, the Republican Governor of Texas Greg Abbott signed into law one of the strictest and most scandalous abortion laws in the US, the Heartbeat Act. It means banning abortion after the sixth week of pregnancy.

Abortion became legal in the US in 1973. In the 50 years since the medical procedure has been the subject of fierce debate. This is why the news unleashed a publicity firestorm in America. Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of US cities, claiming violation of their constitutional rights. The biggest rally took place in Washington, DC. Texan women were backed by celebrities such as Uma Thurman, Billie Eilish, and Lady Gaga.

However, some women strongly support the pro-life position. They might have gone through late-stage abortion themselves and warned others they might regret their decision later, and abortion performed in the latest stages can cause irreversible damage.

In the meantime, doctors warn about a possible surge in illegal “coat hanger” abortions due to the total ban, as we have already witnessed in history.

To learn about all sides of the issue and to hear all voices, watch our film Abortion: America’s Divide.
