Escape to Mars

Russian woman signs up for a one-way ticket to the Red Planet

The Mars One Project was created by two engineers from the Netherlands with the intention of sending astronauts to live on Mars for the rest of their lives. There, they’re expected to collect data, plant oxygen-producing vegetation and create the right conditions for other people to live there in the future.

Despite the obvious dangers of this enterprise and its one-way policy, over 200,000 people from around the world applied. Anastasia, from Moscow, is one of 1058 who made the project’s shortlist. She’s always felt she’s lacked a purpose in life, as she’s whiled away her years waiting for ‘real life’ to begin. When she heard of the mission, she knew it was what she’d been waiting for.

Even though most people in her life don’t support her decision to take the one-way trip to Mars, she’s determined to make her dream come true.
