The Danakil Desert lies on the borders of Djibouti, Ethiopia and Eritrea. The hottest and most toxic desert on Earth, this arid region is prone to seismic activity and abounds in active volcanos. A caravan trade route still exists through this deadly place, despite the hardships it poses. For centuries, Djibouti has been supplying Ethiopia with salt, the prized commodity being one of the pillars of its economy. To this day, the process of collecting and delivering salt has remained almost completely unchanged.
