The Rossiya train is halfway to Vladivostok, and love is in the air. The crew’s most cheerful conductor, Lyudmila, receives a marriage proposal from a strapping young military man, while conductor Svetlana prepares to make her husband, the train’s engineer, his favourite dish – fried lard. Meanwhile, in one compartment, French musicians watch the landscape go by in search of the ‘Russian soul’. Not everything is roses, however, as a mysterious malady strikes the train’s sceptic system, knocking out 7 toilets.
