After Irina’s disastrous birthday on the road to Tula, a proper celebration is planned to mark the ‘Big Three-Oh’ in Moscow. Vladimir’s father even comes from St. Petersburg to help his son find a present for his wife. Unfortunately, this is a tough order to fill, as Irina will only settle for antique gold earrings similar to her favourite ones, which she lost in Turkey.
Meanwhile, Irina has treated herself to the best possible gift of all: a newborn bear cub that will allow the Deryabkins to continue their signature circus act in the coming decades. At the end of the day, all of their friends and relatives gather at a restaurant to wish Irina a belated happy birthday, but the birthday day girl can’t hold back her tears, as nothing has gone as she’d wanted – including her husband’s search for a gift.
