RTD’s slum documentaries show the poorest rundown parts of cities can also be a beacon of hope

A slum can be a frightening place, but it can even inspire. We look at the dark side of slum life in the Machete Boys of Congo, joining the gangs who terrorise and extort the poor people who live there. By contrast, Congo: Cycle of Life explores the work done to give the young of Goma inspiration and aspiration by introducing them to cycle racing. An ocean away in South America, an abandoned tower block became the home for hundreds of squatters. The community is the subject of the film Occupy Tower.
