RTD’s Kosovo documentaries discover the truth about Europe’s most uncertain country
When Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 1999, the people living there had high hopes of a prosperous future, but in the years that followed their dreams were smashed. An exodus a decade-and-a-half after its formation were thwarted at every turn. People disillusioned by the state of Kosovo tried to get to the EU to make a better life. Border controls along the way meant most were forcibly sent back to an unhappy future back in Kosovo. For those who stayed and those who had to return the fear of rising Islamic fundamentalism is another worry they have to contend with.
