Alexander Pichushkin, the “Chessboard Killer”
19 December
Bitsevsky Park, in southwest Moscow, is still surrounded by an aura of fear. At the beginning of the century, the ‘Chessboard’ serial killer Alexander Pichushkin stalked the area. Driven by a God complex, he thought his 49 victims deserved to die. He mutilated the bodies by inserting a vodka bottle or a tree branch into the open wounds of his victims. Pichushkin was caught in 2006 and is serving a life sentence.
