DEATH SIMULATION

10 February

Hyowon Center in South Korea conducts funerals for the living as a new way to deal with stress. The service is part of a programme set up following a sharp rise in suicides. The country has one of the highest suicide rates among developed countries. Participants bring a farewell photo, write a farewell letter, and put on a funeral shroud. At the farewell ceremony, they climb into a coffin for ten minutes. According to director Jeong Yong-Mun, the process makes people think about death as real and inevitable and rethink many vital issues.
