The City of Women: how displaced women in Colombia have banded together for mutual safety

Hundreds of women in Colombia have become pawns in the civil war. Many have been raped or widowed by the guerrillas or government soldiers. A few got together for mutual support and decided to build their own home. That spurred a movement, with displaced women flocking to a community which is almost exclusively female. The women themselves have made all the houses in the City of Women. It’s a haven from the violence that permeates their country.
