The motorsport of drifting first came to Russia in the mid-2000s after starting in Japan. Russians took to the sport, and now it’s one of the country’s most popular spectator events. In the winter, anyone can drift using cheap cars on ice, but summer is the time for the professionals. With cars costing tens of thousands of dollars, Russian drivers have even beaten the Japanese at their own game. A Russian also became world champion in 2018.
