Top 5 lifestyle documentaries

Around the globe, one can find an infinite amount of people leading extraordinary, exotic and remarkable lifestyles. RT Doc makes a selection of 5 most eye-catching:

1. Dying to Dive

Freediving is one of the most extreme sports for a human. Divers plunge to incredible depths with no scuba gear. They push themselves to the limit to break new records despite the serious risks involved. Speaking of motivation, many of these people say it's the sense of unification with nature that calls them to the depth.

2. The Congo Dandies

“La Sape” is a unique movement based in Congo that unites fashion-conscious men who spend a fortune on high-fashion clothes. To afford the price tag of their designer suits, “sapeurs” have to save, borrow and even steal money, sometimes bringing ruin to their families. Dressing in such stark contrast with their surroundings though, makes these men truly happy.

3. Fishing for Herself

Anna is a young, self-reliant fisherwoman from Russia's remote and icy Sakhalin island. Her rules of life include: voluntary solitude, trusting no one and the total meaningless of life. Anna tells the story of her 30 years of solitude.

4. Children of the Tundra

Kids from the tundra are sent to boarding school for a year where some get so homesick that they run away and head back to their snowy wasteland home. It’s a long journey and many have frozen to death on the way. The documentary explores the nomadic lifestyle of tundra inhabitants and tries to find out what pulls people to the cold and dangerous tundra from the warmth and safety of civilization.

5. Agafia

Agafia Lykova lives in one of the most remote parts of Siberia where only a helicopter or a boat can reach. She's 72 years old and has been living in taiga for the whole life. She's deeply religious, doesn't use matches or any modern conveniences, and calls TV a devilish thing.
