On land and sea, RTD’s Arkhangelsk documentaries portray the Arctic gateway

The Arkhangelsk Region is Russia’s gateway to the Arctic. It’s from here explorers travel to the North Pole to chart Russia’s Arctic shelf, and the resources hidden beneath the waves. RTD joined one of the biggest polar expeditions in years as it navigated above the Arctic Circle. The town of Arkhangelsk is a maritime city, and we discover how the male preserve of commanding ships is being broken in the film Miss Captain. On land, the region is famous for its timber, which is felled to make paper.
