Surviving without a family in RTD’s orphan documentaries
As modern warfare takes its toll on the civilian population, and after the fighting is over and the dead counted, many children are left to fend for themselves. Many of these orphans are without any extended family, with no one to look after and support them. In Iraq, computer engineer Hicham Zahabi was so appalled by the hundreds of children living on the streets he opened an orphanage to give them a home and safety. The orphanage for boys is also a school, and Hicham is determined his charges will grow to be educated useful members of a rebuilt Iraqi society.
