Autocracy and dictatorship investigated in RTD’s totalitarianism documentaries

The idea of absolute power corrupting absolutely is one of the themes examined in RTD’s totalitarianism documentaries. Historically the films look at the Stalinist era, where millions were imprisoned in harsh Gulags for even petty crimes. The film Living Dead Railroad looks at the history of the Salekhard-Igarka railway, where thousands died building the single track across the frozen arctic tundra. The modern-day totalitarian regime of North Korea is put in the spotlight in a series of films looking at the face and reality of living in the communist state.
