Selling vital organs to survive

After selling a kidney, Ghulam Nabi got about $3,000 and permanently damaged his health. He can't do any heavy work now, and money is still scarce. This is the story of many residents of the Afghan province of Herat. To people, who earn about 200 afghanis a day, 250 000 afghani or $3,000, is a lot. They have to feed big families and pay off creditors. Exhausted by the constant battle for a piece of bread, people agree to the procedure. The demand for this vital organ is high, and it constantly brings new customers from Europe and America to the Herat black market. The process is straightforward and accessible both for the donors and the buyers, making it very hard to control. Is it even possible?
