Dzerassa Kudzaeva is one of the victims of the terrorist attack on September 1, 2004, in the town of Beslan, North Ossetia. Terrorists captured the school and held the children and their relatives hostage in the assembly hall for three days. Dzerassa says her father escaped when he was throwing corpses out of the window at the request of the terrorists. Her mother and younger sister were released on the second day. Dzerassa miraculously survived after her grandmother saved her from a bomb explosion with her body. During the Beslan siege, 344 hostages were killed.
