Mikhail Popkov: The Serial Killer was a Cop
14 August
Over almost 20 years, Mikhail Popkov murdered at least 78 people in a killing spree around the city of Angarsk, Siberia. When arrested in 2010, the mass murderer turned out to be a policeman. Prosecutors said he was on a mission to clean up the town and murdered anyone he considered undesirable. Some of his victims were vagrants and prostitutes, but many were women who just happened to be drunk. Popkov is serving two life sentences for his crimes.
