The Child Abandonment Prevention Centre helps mothers change their minds
Seventeen-year-old Alina from the city of Ekaterinburg is a single expectant mother. She is thinking of abandoning her child as she has no means of support. To prevent the young mom-to-be from taking this desperate step, Alina’s doctor contacted a local organisation which helps vulnerable women and families struggling to get by.
The organisation provides counselling and financial support to parents trying to get them to change their minds over abandoning their babies. Women like Alina are placed into temporary housing where the mothers talk and support each other. Psychologists at the centre say a little help is often enough for a mother to make up her mind to keep a child.
We join committed social workers as they help Alina discover her maternal instincts.
