The Arctic north may be frozen, but there’s a warm welcome in RTD’s Yakutia documentaries
Yakutia is a vast area almost the size of India stretching from the Arctic Ocean almost to Russia’s border with Mongolia in the south. With long winters, the temperature in Yakutia can reach minus 50C. Nevertheless, the cold climate is in contrast to the warm welcome that locals give to visitors. This huge land is home to less than a million people, making Yakutia one of the least densely-populated places in the world. Native traditions survive along with new pastimes, as explored in RTD’s Yakutia documentaries.
