Shaman School: a Shaman initiation in Russia’s Buryatia region

Being a Shaman in Russia’s Buryatia region is big business, as every family has to have one. Every extended family in the region has a shaman to help them communicate with the spirits of the dead. Shamans are mediators with the ancestors of the Buryat people. When a Shaman dies, their spirit picks another to take their place. The initiation ceremony involves fevered drumming and dancing.
