My Father’s Murder: Solved

My Father’s Murder: Solved is RT Documentary’s film about a Russian woman whose father was murdered in the 1990s. Anastasia joined law enforcement and helped find her father's killers after 24 years.

In the 1990s, criminality in the Russian city of Novgorod was critical, just like in the rest of the country. The unstable political situation and volatile economy after the collapse of the Soviet Union lead to a surge in gang activity, racketeering and the hunt for easy money. Novgorod was hit the hardest because of its proximity to Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

Anastasia’s father was a successful local businessman who refused to cut deals with the criminal circles and pay kickbacks. This independence earned him a lot of enemies. When he was killed, the case was quickly closed, as were almost all contract killings. Investigating them took a long time, and every day there was another murder for detectives to handle.

Two decades later, when Anastasia grew up and joined law enforcement, she could finally help finish the investigation of her father’s death. The case was reopened after 24 years. On January 21, 2022, V. Vitkov was found guilty of the murder of Aleksandr Sadriyev and sentenced to 17 years in a maximum security correctional facility. How did the police find the killer after so much time had passed?
