RTD Documentaries honoured at prestigious New York Festivals

RTD Documentaries has won a Finalist Certificate at 2019 New York Festivals TV & Films Awards for Iraqi Safe House, a film about an orphanage for Iraqi boys. The film was honoured in the Social Issues category, competing with documentaries by Al Jazeera English, ESPN Films, and Swedish Television, among many others. 

Iraqi Safe House is also the name of the charitably funded children's home that helps boys who live in poverty or who lost their parents to ISIS or in battle against the militants.

Hicham al Zahabi opened the Iraqi Safe House for Creativity, where boys with no viable families could heal from their traumas and thrive. He’s raised more than 150 boys over 14 years. / A still from Iraqi Safe House

New York Festivals, World’s Best TV & Films is a prestigious international TV and film competition that honours story-telling in various genres, including documentary, animation, promos, and others from more than 50 countries.

This isn't the first time RT Documentaries have received accolades; previous winning titles include, Growing up with War: Children of Syria, Sea Life Savers, Love Commandos, H2wOe, Albino Africa, Blood and Honour, She is My Son, The Shegué, the Sorcerer and Che Guevara, Trauma, and A City of Desolate Mothers.
