Alaska: The Great Deal

It was discovered in 1741 and used to be a part of Russia. In 1867, after lengthy negotiations Alaska was sold to the United States for the price of 7.2 million dollars. It was called a “box of ice”, a “polar bear garden” and Walrussia. But in the language of indigenous peoples, the word “Alaska” means The Great Land...
