The Frontline Grind

What daily routines of the 'Crimea' Battalion’s fighters looks like

Many ‘Crimea’ Battalion soldiers could hardly ever imagined they’d join the military. However, the 2014 coup d'état in Ukraine made them dramatically change the course of their lives and stand up to fight against the Ukrainian nationalists, in order to protect their homes and loved ones. Since April 2022 ‘Crimea’ Battalion fighters have been guarding the strategic positions in Vasilyevka, Zaporozhye Region. The film crew spent several days with the ‘Crimea’ reconnaissance team, only metres away from the enemy positions, to show their everyday routine and tasks. Direct confrontations are rare, but the constant threat of drones and mines is hanging over them.

These warriors are dreaming of the day that they’ll get to be with their families again and live a peaceful life. Only once in a while do they get the opportunity to have a phone call with their loved ones. But talking loudly and for a long time is dangerous. Sometimes the only thing they manage to say to their family on the phone is "I love you." Nevertheless, the guys are ready for these sacrifices. Fighters have chosen to put their lives on the line to protect their dear ones and bring justice to the region.
