Akhal-Teke Horses: Heavenly Creatures

Spectacular horses from Turkmenistan shatter world records

The Akhal-Teke, the last descendant of wild horses, stands as the world's closest link to their untamed ancestors. A trained Akhal-Teke can command a price of up to $100,000. However, hereditary riders emphasise that these magnificent creatures can only be won over with affection and careful handling. To jockeys, these horses are like their own children. Additionally, once an Akhal-Teke is mistreated, renewed trust is nearly impossible to earn. 'If you beat it, it'll take offence and may even stop eating or drinking,' says jockey Ishanguly Babalyev. This documentary explores the history of this unique breed and uncovers the characteristics that make it so special.
