Growing up in a disadvantaged African American neighbourhood doesn’t necessarily mean you’re mired in a cycle of poverty, drugs and crime forever, say those featured in this episode of Black Lives. They share personal stories of how they managed to escape the grim reality they were apparently doomed to.
