In 2018, during the World FIFA Cup, St Basil’s Cathedral was popular among fans and became a symbol of the Championship. In terms of attendance, it even outran Luzhniki Stadium, which hosted the final game. There’s no surprise there. At the first mention of Russian culture, St. Basil’s comes to mind somewhere between a bear and a matryoshka. The joyfully coloured domes of the Cathedral are sometimes referred to as a whim of a mad confectioner. One of the oldest churches in the city, it dazzles tourists with its beauty. It was built by order of Ivan the Terrible to mark taking over the Kazan Khanate, and a lot of secrets surrounds its construction. Which one of them is true?
