Surviving a Mountain Lion Mauling

23 July

Travis Kaufmann is lucky to be alive. He was out running a trail in Colorado when a mountain lion attacked him. When the big cat pounced, Travis was thrown to the ground. With his wrist trapped between the animal’s jaws, he had to use his body weight and legs to subdue and eventually kill the beast. Park Rangers say attacks by mountain lions are rare, but Travis’ injuries were extensive, and other hikers ensured he got the first aid he needed.
