Love Bruises

Abusive relationships and domestic violence in Russia

Marina lost her eye sight as a result of systematic domestic violence. Olga's husband literally wiped his feet on her. Svetlana was attacked for defending her children. All these women endured years of abuse before they decided that being on their own with nowhere to live was a safer option than staying with their husbands. Even though some of them have to raise their kids in a shelter, they are lucky to have escaped their abusive relationships in time… not every victim of domestic violence recognises the danger before it's too late. They explain why it took them so long to acknowledge the problem and act and how their lives changed after they made the fateful decision to end their damaging relationships.
