The pilot hole has been drilled, and the serious boring has begun. Some foreign specialists arrive on the Polar Star to look after their own company’s equipment and Assistant Driller Alekandr serves as translator. Despite his college degree and high-tech background, he is passionate about drilling and, like most of the crew, is determined to move up the career ladder. Then, everything suddenly comes to a screeching halt when the drillers hit a pocket of shallow light gas that could sink the entire platform.
