Discover if purposely fracturing the Earth is a recipe for disaster in RTD’s fracking documentaries
Hydraulic fracturing or ‘fracking’ is a technique used to extract oil and gas from deep inside the Earth. Opponents say it’s dangerous as the operation requires millions of gallons of water, and poses a danger to the drinking-water supply. In America, some states have confirmed groundwater and drinking water have been contaminated. Studies of people living near drilling operations show they’re at greater risk of illnesses affecting the skin, brain, and nervous system. Despite the dangers associated, fracking still takes place in 21 US states.
