CSTO Allies: 30 years protecting collective security

Post-Soviet alliance fighting terrorism and protecting common interests

“We have no designs on any other territories, countries, or interests. Our goal is to provide security and peace here, on our land, in our countries,” says Stanislav Zas, Secretary-General of CSTO. He points out that the Collective Security Treaty Organization was created to protect its members’ borders from terrorists, drug trafficking, and other threats. The primary way of solving problems by CSTO is diplomacy and politics. But when force is justified, it has 30,000 soldiers available.

Today the CSTO has observer status in the UN General Assembly. It is a powerful position which opens ways for worldwide diplomacy. Yet, every day CSTO faces problems of vital importance. So, what strategies does it employ?
