How Kenya’s economy survived lockdown
During the lockdown, Kenya’s Amboseli National Park saw an unprecedented elephant baby boom - 206 calves were born in one year. But, while elephant families enjoyed the clean environment and tourist-free pastures, the park employees weren’t so happy. Tourism, one of Kenya’s major industries, was seriously crippled by the COVID pandemic. Though only 0.3% of Kenyans had COVID, the infection scare seriously damaged the quality of life because Kenya’s population is very young, with an average age of 20. People were scared of touching and contracting the virus, which made the lives of vulnerable groups like pregnant women even harder.
