An ordinary Wonderwoman
Galina Chuvina (aka “Baba Galya”) became a celebrity after her dizzying rise to fame as a knife-throwing expert at 56. Now she’s 65, and her sporting career is gradually coming to an end. Although she’s claimed over 50 titles, including European and World Championships, the sport she excelled in was only officially recognized in Russia in 2019. Moreover, all her significant achievements fall into the amateur category, which doesn’t garner any government support. With no family to fall back on these days, Galina lives a solitary life in a small town of Sasovo, supplementing her meagre pension by selling produce at the market.
