The booming baby factories of India in RTD’s surrogacy documentaries
India has a booming and controversial surrogacy industry as critics fear vulnerable women are open to exploitation. Prices are a third of the cost in the United States, and this has led to claims of birth tourism, with surrogates in India becoming no more than a ‘baby factory’. However, the doctors in India who offer the service show surrogate mothers have a better life than many, and infertile couples get the child they’ve always wanted.
