Black Lives: Deadlock

Black Lives Matter vs the Ku Klux Klan: Racial tensions spark anger in the USA

Historically, racism has shaped Black America, but fifty years after the end of legal segregation and in spite of the election of a Black president, racial tensions seem on the rise. In Episode 8 of the Black Lives documentary series, RTD investigates what is keeping Black and White Americans from living as one community. A white supremacist family involved in the Ku Klux Klan talks about their desire for separatism, while an African American radio host and Black Lives Matter activist discuss White flight and gentrification, and their effect on community mixing.

At nighttime, hooded Klansmen stand around a burning cross. Still taken from RTD documentary Black Lives 8: Deadlock.
Cross burning, a traditional ritual of the Ku Klux Klan, is still happening in America.
