Dangerous Garbage

Improper recycling increases spread of COVID-19

In countries like Uganda or Bangladesh, private clinics have no money to dispose of medical waste completely. Thus, Covid contaminated materials get deposited in the mainstream waste. Trash collecting companies are only interested in earning more money, they don’t observe regulations concerning the proper disposal of waste. This is how medical waste ends up mixed with household garbage, very often still contagious, and spreading the infection further. "If you track it, then you'll be really astonished by seeing how we are spreading the whole thing into society without even knowing how dangerous it can be’, says an expert from Uganda Atukwatse Peruth.
