Happiness Is In Your Own Hands. When private initiative meets government support
Lacking in agricultural land, the Chinese province of Fujian was falling behind both economically and socially. Thanks to a new government program aimed at alleviating poverty, the region is gradually starting to flourish. Former peasants living in remote mountainous areas were relocated to the shore, where they now enjoy better living conditions and sustainable employment with seaweed farms and processing plants. Some have even started their own successful businesses thanks to state loans.
