Fine Art of ReConciliation

Colombia’s rebel women: beauty, babies and battle in the rainforest

In Colombia, a deadly civil war has raged since 1964. Starting in 2012, talks between the government and Leftist FARC guerrillas resulted in a ceasefire and hopes for an end to the conflict. Just before a peace treaty was signed in 2016, RTD travelled to a guerrilla camp deep in the rainforest to see how women, who make up 40% of FARC troops, felt about the prospect. While cleaning guns and doing their nails, veterans talk about the equality they found in the struggle and the children they can’t keep with them.
