ISIS in Kurdistan & Vigilante Justice in Mexico City – News Team Ep.88
Paula Slier is exploring how worries about Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) have changed the lives of ordinary people in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. She interviews a family, a business owner, and a political analyst, looking into signs that life has been put on hold here until calmer times prevail. The information she collects helps her find the right angle for her story.
Meanwhile, Bricio Segovia is doing a story on vigilante justice in an area of Mexico City that suffers from a lack of police patrols. However, as he interviews local residents, he fails to find evidence of any violent lynchings, discovering instead a rather benign neighbourhood watch association. Although police presence in the area does appear to be deficient, some of the information Bricio uncovers prompts him to switch the focus of his report to police corruption.
