Syria. The Story of One Tragedy

Leith - a boy whose entire family was killed before his eyes

Leith is a timid boy who hasn’t got many friends at school. If you didn’t know his story, he seems like an ordinary child. But five years ago, he suffered an immense trauma: his parents, brothers and sisters were killed by a group of terrorists that attacked their village. He spent two months as a hostage and then was luckily reunited with his grandmother Shamsa. She survived because terrorists decided to trade her, among other women, for their arrested comrades. So Leith’s childhood has been stolen, as were those of many Syrian children, 2.5 million of whom didn’t have a chance to attend school. However, the country is slowly mending, and Leith is learning to smile and be himself again.
