China has been pulling off incredible feats of civil engineering to give it cutting-edge infrastructure. One of its most daring projects is the Shenzhen-Zhongshan bridge, which is due to open in 2024. The 24 km bridge over the Pearl River estuary north of Hong Kong leads to a tunnel sunk on the seabed and an artificial island. Project engineers tell RTD about the precision needed to connect the tubes underwater while a local worker shows how the bridge will change his life.
