What do Republika Srpska, Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Palestine all have in common? These countries have all declared independence, but are yet to be recognised as sovereign states worldwide. RTD's documentary series about unrecognised republics examines the causes of the stalemate and shows what it’s like to live in a half-way house, hemmed in by borders that do not represent statehood. Presidents and conscripts, army veterans and grieving relatives, businessmen and artists tell RTD their painful memories of war, the tense relations with their neighbours, and also their hopes for the future.
